A poem I thought I’d share.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on November 22, 2008 by Darlene Barnes

I found this poem in my Vet’s office. I really touch my heart. I thought I’d share it.

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Don’t break my spirit with a stick, for though I might lick your hand
between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly
teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as
You must know by the fierch wagging of my tail when the sound of
your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated
animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory
then the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer

Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your
bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect
you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And. my friend, when I am very old and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing
and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going, If I am not
having any fun. Please see to it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave
this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest
in your hands.

I wish I new who to give credit to for that poem, but it was photocopy handing on the wall at my vet’s office and there was no auther. To who ever wrote that, Thank you.

To my first best friend “Bear” 4/1988 – 12/2002
Bear was my first dog when I moved out on my own. He was there for all the ups and downs of growing up on your own. I had Bear from a 6 week old puppy, he was so fuzzy and cute as puppy. Bear was half Old English Sheepdog, half Golden Retriever.

To my other best friend “Maxwell” 6/1988 – 8/2003
I adopted Max at the age of 5 from people who didn’t know how to take care of him. I thought I’d find a home for him, but I fell in love with his great personality. Max was a Basset Hound.
I miss them both.

Jag Trial Swedesboro, NJ November 15th & 16th

This weekend we ran in a show in Swedesboro NJ. It took us about 1 hour to get there, it wasn’t too bad. We had to go down to exit 2 off the NJ Turnpike. What was tough was on Saturday our 1st run was at 7:30 in the morning, that meant I had to get up a 4:00 am to get there with time to set up and prepare. Sunday our 1st run as at 8:30, we got to sleep an extra hour. We had a fun weekend, hanging out with our agility friends and watching all the competitions.
It was in a great new place “Gloucester County Dream Park”. We ran in a huge horse barn.
It had it’s grand opening In June 2008, what a beautiful facility. I heard that there will be several trials next year at this location.
We unfortunately did not have a very successful weekend. I don’t even want to post the videos, they are terrible. I do try to keep a positive attitude, and I can say we had fun. The courses were challenging. There were some hard weave pole entries, which we struggled with. JoJo was very fast on the dirt and it made her a bit excited, but as always we ran as a team. The team sucked this weekend, but we ran as a team, and I am grateful for that. I made mistakes and JoJo made mistakes, like I said the team sucked. That was our last show until next year, which should give us plenty of time to practice, practice on the areas we need work on, both of us.
At some of the shows, there will be a photographer, unfortunately we haven’t found any pictures that we were happy with, I guess I am too picky. This weekend there was a photographer there. I found a few pictures that I was happy with. I got a CD with them so I can do my own prints. Man are they expensive. Wish I could take my own pictures.
Here are a few, they aren’t the greatest, but they will do.jojoteter1Check out that face, she is waiting for the teter to go down.

Got air! Well, 8″s of air. Ha Ha.

Here is my favorite, JoJo coming out of the shoot. Check out the face.

This weekend we competed in Ringoes, NJ

This weekend we competed in an Agility Trial in Ringoes NJ. It was hosted by “Garden State Norwegian Elkhound Club”. It was our first indoor show, which could of made it a little challenging. It was in a horse barn, with a dirt floor. I wasn’t too worried about the floor, I didn’t think it would be a problem. Well it wasn’t a problem, but Lil JoJo ran so fast on the dirt floor, in the first event, I couldn’t keep up with her. Let me explain, usually JoJo is very comfortable to run along side of me. She doesn’t like me to get too far ahead of her, and she very rarely gets ahead of me. The advantage of competing with a small dog.

On Saturday, our first event was Novice Jumpers, we just need 1 more Q to move up in too Open Jumpers. We’ve been struggling a bit with JoJo dropping bars down. We have been working on getting a little weight off of her and training with multiple jumps. We did drop a bar, but I think it was due to her being so fast, I was caught a little off guard and I pulled off a turn too fast, and the rest is history.
Our second event was Open Standard, JoJo was so super fast, she had an amazing fast time and we Q’d with a second place finished. I was so excited.

Here is our Saturday Open Standard Run

On Sunday we competed in Open Standard for our first event, it was bright an early at 8am. I think that I left my Lil JoJo home and brought her evil twin sister. She was so off it was shocking. She broke her start line stay, which she never does, she didn’t want to do her weave poles, an she went round d round in the tunnel. These things happen.
We did have a lot of success in our last run of the day Novice Jumpers, After waiting all day to run a 4pm, we were the very first dog to go. I was very nervous to be the first, but we were awesome, and yes we not only Q’d, we took first place. Finally our 3rd Q, we have completed our Novice Jumpers Title and we move up to Open.

Here is our Sunday Open Standard Run

This is the run where I think I left my dog home and brought her evil twin sister.

We attend another show, “Pembroke  Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden St. & Burlington Kennel Club” at Millcreek Park, Willingboro, NJ.
We did very well, we got our 3rd Q in Novice Standard, obtained our title. We still only have 1 Q in Novice Jumpers, but we are working on that.

Our Saturday Novice Jumpers run

Looks like we are missing a video from our Standard run on Saturday. Too bad that was our 3rd Q in Standard, which gave us our Novice title. I will have to post it later, if I find it. Way to go JoJo

Our Sunday Novice Jumpers run

Our Sunday Novice Standard run. We didn’t move up to Open Standard yet. Next trial, we did come home with another Q.

I am so proud my JoJo. She makes it so easy, heck she makes me look good. She is the best lil Jack Russell.
Thank you to all my friends that helped with video taping my runs. It helps tremendously. Thank You!

Some of my favorite photos of JoJo.

This is one of my favorite photos. It was a lucky catch for me. My husband threw the frisbee & I just kept shooting. She is a good 3-4′ off the ground.  Gotta love it.

I call it “Flying JoJo”

“I know there is a squirral in there”

Our Second Trial was in my hometown Jamesburg/Monroe Twp. NJ

Our second trial was at Thompson Park, in my hometown Jamesburg, NJ. That made it nice and easy, I didn’t have to get up a 5am to get there. It also made it easy for family to be able to come and watch. That made me a little bit nervous, but we made it thru. On Sunday, I actually went home for a little while and got lunch.
